#1 Fan
February 4th, 2010 |I had a high school girl, giggle and almost faint moment the other day. I found out that Coheed & Cambria will be releasing their new CD “Year of the Black Rainbow” in April. I’m a huge fan, and by huge fan I mean I wanted to grow my hair just so I could have the same hairdo as the lead singer Claudio Sanchez. That was when I was 18, which I’m sure anyone who knows me personally is thinking, “Ha ha that was just yesterday”, but to me it seems really far away. I can see it seeming REALLY far away to them though, due to their advanced age. But enough age bashing, back to the giggles. With piracy being as huge now, as it was during the wooden ships days, to which most of the above mention friends grew up in, music has always been readily available to anyone who knew how to find it. But I’ve bought almost every single CD Coheed & Cambria have ever released, including Live stuff and DVDs, minus Neverender: Children of the Fence Edition, which is super expensive. My birthday is coming up though, so who knows if it will be one of my presents. I think stickers, t-shirts and ring tones should be in that list as well. They are in my top friends on Myspace and I even follow them on Twitter. I know all the songs, and if anyone has played Rock Band with me knows that if I sing, it will be a Coheed & Cambria song. I’m a fan, I mean if you haven’t noticed.
What’s so special? Unlike any other band I’ve known, every Coheed & Cambria CD links together to tell the story of guess who, Coheed & Cambria. I remember the day I found out about them, sit back and I’m going to cue the flashback sequence. It’s summer and I’m about 15 or 16. I’m staying with my uncle for the summer and he has the internet, something that until I saw it at his house, I didn’t know existed. It was AOL dial-up mind you, but I was amazed, and in love. The first thing I learned to do on the internet was download. With my eye patch and parrot (aka my 2 year old cousin), I scoured the internet for anything with a link. That’s when I found them, well the previous them. For a while Coheed & Cambria went by the name of Shabutie. After only a few listens I was hooked. Close to 10 years later I still listen to them almost everyday. It’s also safe to say that when I start work on my sleeve (tattoo), the Coheed & Cambria dragonfly logo will be a part of it. The Deluxe Edition CD will contain a 352 page Year of the Black Rainbow novel written by Claudio Sanchez himself and Peter David, a Making Of DVD, a Black Card that allows early entrance into selected shows and discounts on merchandise. You can say I’m a bit excited.
