It just kept snowing!
February 1st, 2010 |Early Saturday morning the snow began to fall, and it continued to fall well into Saturday evening leaving our fair city under 6-9 inches of snow. The kids had a blast making snow men. For me this was really exciting. The snow man in our backyard stands taller than my 5′4″ wife and almost as tall as me. Maybe no big deal to you but this is the first “real” snowman I’ve ever had. Growing up in Alabama we would get an occasional 2 or 3 inches and usually it wasn’t good snowball making snow, much less good snowman making stuff. But now we have a full Frosty the Snowman sized one in the backyard. Although after a couple days I notice he has started to tilt to the side a little and will likely tip over tomorrow when it finally gets above freezing.
I’ve never really been this excited about snow. In the past it was more of a nuisance than anything else. This year, however, I didn’t have to drive in it or go out at all. This alone made it much more enjoyable. Watching all of the neighborhood kids gather in our backyard and have a blast was just icing on the cake.
So now it’s been three days with this stuff on the ground and we’ve found out that schools will be closed once again. Two snow days! I would have been ecstatic when I was a kid, but as a parent that works from home; if the roads are too icy to drive on, I say make the little buggers walk! It will give them some life experience and they’ll have something to use against their own kids some day.
Stay warm.
