Who be the “V”?
November 13th, 2009 |I still remember being excited during the build up to the original “V” mini-series. For some of you it’s hard to imagine a time long ago and far away, where we had three networks to choose from and no internet as we know it today (this was long before Al Gore invented it in the early 90′s). This was also a dark time in American television. As far as I can recall, we were in a profound dry spell as far as science-fiction on television was concerned. Battlestar Galactica and Buck Rogers both had been off the air for a while now and we were still years away from Star Trek: The Next Generation’s premiere. So for those of us that were sci-fi geeks “V” was the television event of the year if not the first half of the decade!
The mini-series blew me away. Sadly the sequel and television series that followed were pale imitations and died a slow painful death. And to add insult to injury they ended the series with a cliff-hanger. As crappy as the series was towards the end I was still watching every week and I’ve cursed the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) many times over the years for ending the series the way it did and leaving thousands of us to wonder what happened at the end. Did the bomb kill the emperor? Did the Star Child survive?
Now we have a new series. I’ve heard rumblings around the webs that “Who’s a V?” will be the new “Who’s the last cylon?” That may be, but I would point out that V’s disguised as humans came before Cylons disguised as humans (the original Battlestar Galactica didn’t have human looking cylons) But yes, I’m sure the producers will try to cash in on the new Galactica’s successful formula and soon we’ll be asking the question each week if the show lasts.
All that I ask of ABC (and her mother Disney) is this; if you finally decided to cancel the show, that’s fine. JUST DON’T END IT WITH A FREAKING CLIFF-HANGER like the other network did!

P.S. I’m not a V and I’m willing to be exposed to the red dust to prove it.
